    The Point Loma High School Visual Art Dept. offers a complete range of art classes:

    Art 1,2 is the prerequisite to more advanced classes and does fulfill the fine art requirement for graduation, as well as A-G requirements for college admittance.

    Drawing and Painting is a yearlong class where the students will participate in activities and projects related to various studio art media and technique. The course will also integrate art history, major developments in art and important artists into a visual repertoire to encourage the student to continue with their art education.

    Digital Photography is a yearlong course where students will learn camera technique and Photoshop skills.

    Advanced Placement Studio Art is a course leads students to develop mastery of concept, composition and execution of their personal ideas and themes. Students will also understand that art creation is a process that uses informed and critical decision making to determine outcomes to problems. Students will be expected to develop a comprehensive portfolio that addresses each of these issues in a personal way.

    Ceramics 1-2 is a two semester course. Credit for this course counts toward the Fine and Practical Arts credits required for high school graduation and for entrance into U.C. and C.S.U. schools. This course is a studio course providing the student with in-depth study and work in clay. Instruction will include hand-built objects, work on the potter's wheel, decoration, glazing, and firing.
