Drill Team Grade 9 - 12

Prerequisites: Grade point average of 2.0 or better in scholarship and citizenship for the preceding grading period.

This course includes instruction in performing cheer, drill team, and show choir activities as well as instruction and assessment in the following eight content areas: (1) effects of physical activity upon dynamic health; (2) mechanics of body movement; (3) aquatics, (4) gymnastics and tumbling; (5) individual and dual sports; (6) rhythms and dance; (7) team sports; and (8) combatives/self-defense. This course also prepares students for the state-mandated physical fitness test. All students enrolled in the course must participate concurrently in cheer, drill team, or show choir and must demonstrate progress toward mastering the high school physical education content standards.

Cheer Core - Grades 9 - 12

Prerequisites: Ability to learn cheer routines quickly and make a year-long commitment to all required Cheer activities. Parental permission, a completed Athletic Packet with physical, and a completed and signed PLHS Cheer application and contract are required in order to tryout and then participate in PLHS Cheer. Students in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to try-out for the Junior Varsity squad. Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are eligible to try-out for the Varsity squad. Tryouts are held during the spring semester; squad placement is based on grade level and overall tryout score.

Marching Band - Grades 9,10,11,12

* Concurrent enrollment in a band class is required.

This course includes instruction in performing marching activities as well as instruction and assessment in the following eight content areas: (1) effects of physical activity upon dynamic health; (2) mechanics of body movement; (3) aquatics, (4) gymnastics and tumbling; (5) individual and dual sports; (6) rhythms and dance; (7) team sports; and (8) combatives/self-defense. This course will also prepare students for the state-mandated physical fitness test. All students enrolled in the course must be concurrently enrolled in a band course and must demonstrate progress toward mastering the high school physical education content standards.

Physical Education - Interscholastic Athletics (Sport PE) - Grades 9,10,11,12

* All students in 9th grade must be rostered to a team and commit to 2 CIF sports. All students in 10th grade must commit to 2 CIF sports. All students in 11th and 12th grade must commit to 1 CIF sport.

Description - Point Loma fields teams in numerous sports with most sports represented by both a varsity and junior varsity team. This course includes coaching in competitive athletics as well as instruction and assessment in the following eight content areas: (1) effects of physical activity upon dynamic health; (2) mechanics of body movement; (3) aquatics, (4) gymnastics and tumbling; (5) individual and dual sports; (6) rhythms and dance; (7) team sports; and (8) combatives/self-defense. This course will also prepare students for the state-mandated physical fitness test.

PE Strength and Conditioning 1,2 Grade 11 - 12

Prerequisites: PE 1, 2 and PE 3, 4 or equivalent

Description - In this elective course students are taught basic exercise movements and rhythmic fundamentals to enhance all body parts. This course emphasizes developing and improving cardiovascular fitness, body composition and flexibility, and increasing muscular strength and endurance.

Surf P.E. 11th and 12th grade

Prerequisites: PE 1, 2 and PE 3, 4 or equivalent

Surfing and improving surf skills will be our main focus in PL Surf PE. In partnership with 100 % local PL and OB community sponsors, PLHS alumni, SD Lifeguards, and the Peninsula YMCA, students will be able to learn, practice, develop, and advance surf skills, beginner, intermediate, advance swim skills, CPR/AED lifesaving skills, water safety skills, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu self-defense skills, HIIT and aerobic activites, while also helping to prepare students for high levels of achievement in surfing competitions.
